Black Sand Bliss | Yoga + Adventure Retreat

Black Sand Bliss Yoga and Adventure Retreat
Need some time out from the normal life routine? Come and join me in Bali for some beachside bliss on the beautiful quiet side of the island – North Bali. This is the Bali most tourists never see, hidden away from the crowds, where the Balinese villages are as they have been for centuries, and where village people live as they have lived for centuries too. Many of those in the village where we stay – Bondalem, are fishermen. There are not so many rice paddies here but there’s loads of amazing tropical fruits and vegetables, many grown up on the mountain one hour away on Kintamani.
We will spend our mornings doing our meditation and then yoga practice, and then you may want to jump in for a quick swim right before a breakfast of tropical fruits, and a choice of jaffles, omlette, or the famous Balinese banana or pineapple pancake.
In the afternoon there’s time for a massage with our onsite Balinese Masseur or a Tarot session with me, and one afternoon we’ll also head over to the nearby waterfall for a cleansing dip after lunch.
We’ll spend four days at the beach in North Bali and then we will head over to East Bali, passing by Candidasa on the way to Vigin Beach. There we will stay for three days and enjoy a Melukat water purification ceremony at a stunning temple there.
Accomodation

North Bali Guesthouse
Accomodation in North Bali is in a beautiful, secluded guesthouse in North Bali, far away from the madding crowds. Rooms are simple, and elegant, aerated by traditional ceiling fans and most of them are blessed with a view of the sea. All rooms have a big balcony with traditional Balinese chaise longue chairs or hammocks for afternoon reading. This guesthouse is set in a splendid tropical garden full of flowers and many different varieties of tropical fruits – some of them arriving on your table for breakfast!
East Bali (Virgin Beach) Guesthouse

Our accomodation for our second 3 days (in East Bali just nearby Virgin Beach) is another simple and beautiful guesthouse in the shade of the sacred Mount Agung. You can clearly see Agung peaking out from behind the clouds when you stand out the front of your room. These are simple Balinese style bamboo huts on stilts, each one with a balcony, and some even with baths in the bathroom (baths are important for the Balinese people!).
Delicious Home Made Balinese Cuisine

All the Breakfast will be delicious, fresh tropical fruit, tea or coffee, and a choice of pancake, jaffle, or omelette. Coffee and tea will be available all day. Lunch and dinner will be paid for separately.
Food offered at our guesthouse is healthy, fresh, traditional Balinese-style vegetarian meals, and also meat / fish, freshly cooked on-site. All recipes are derived from the rich culinary heritage of Bali and indonesia. So whether you are starving for a traditional Nasi Goreng (fried rice) or you are wanting more of a Balinese delicacy (such as Lawar – which blends finely chopped coconut with delicious traditional spices and your choice of fish, meat or vegetables), your appetite will be satisfied by the wonderful cooks! They also create great innovative and refreshing drinks from the fresh fruits available, and have invented a few wonders that you’ll only find here: make sure to ask!

- 3 x morning meditation sessions
- 1 x guided evening mantra Kirtan chanting (optional)
- 1 x Tarot / Reiki Session

Yoga + Meditation

Each morning we will do a Vipassana Inspired meditation practice for 30 minutes, before our one hour energetic Hatha Vinyasa Yoga session. The class will be tailored to the different levels and abilities in the group, so that it’s inspiring and invigorating for everyone. You might be an experienced yogi/ini, practicing for the last ten years, or someone who’s only tried a few classes.
The morning and evening classes will be tailored to fit everyone’s different level, with different variations of the postures for each person according to their yoga level and their energetic state for the day. I like to highlight that yoga is not a performative sport, but rather a practice that helps us to really connect in with our body and soul, so as to be more embodied in our every day lives. The fitness benefits gained through the exercise as well as the breathwork inherent in any true yoga class are also a great extra! But they are more of a side bonus rather than the number one goal : that being unification of the energies of body, mind and spirit : i.e the meaning of the word yoga.
Balinese Water Purification Ritual in East Bali
After spending four days at our beautiful guesthouse on the beach in North Bali, we will head a couple of hours drive East, past the charming beach town Candidasa and onto our next destination nearby to Virgin Beach. Virgin beach is a white sand beach and one of the most beautiful swimming (not surf) beaches in Bali. There are some great little restaurants here, as well as the option to get a massage directly on the beach. Even though it’s not far away, the vibe is different here and you’ll see another side of this incredible island, which is known as the heart chakra of the world. And an island of very strong feminine healing energy. They say that Bali either embraces you, or kicks you out. But we trust that we’ll all be embraced on this magical mystical journey.
On the way to East Bali we will stopover at one of Bali’s ancient Bali Aga villages – the Bali Aga are a unique tribe who are different from the rest of the Balinese, and they do look a little different. Their beliefs and their traditions are also different and date back to before the Hindu religion came to the island. They are famous for not wanting to interbreed with the other Balinese, so as to keep the uniqueness of their own tribe. The one Bali Aga village nearby to Candidasa is an amazing example of one of these communities – the village is a living, intact Bali Aga village that looks like it was built in the stone age. We can visit the weavers who work their producing beautiful fabrics and also have a guided tour by a Bali Aga local.
